My Soccer Adventures

I met my soccer idol, Brian McBride, in 1998 after winning the Columbus Crew's contest to be "Reporter For A Day."

Welcome to "My Soccer Adventures" page, where I will share some of my favorite moments and experiences from my soccer fandom. This section is certainly a "work in progress" page, as I have much work to do in order to include all of my joyous experiences, but enjoy what minimal amount I have posted so far. Thanks!

Crew Reporter for a Day
In 1998, I won a contest to be the Columbus Crew Reporter for a Day. It provided me my first opportunity in journalism. I was provided an all-access credential that allowed me to be on the field during pre-game warm ups, in the press box during the match, and in the locker room for postgame interviews. I chatted with Crew greats, Brian McBride, Brian Maisonneuve, Thomas Dooley, Jurgen Sommer, among others. It was a truly once in a lifetime experience. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the article I submitted after the match, which was featured on the front page of the Crew's web site. Maybe one of these days I will stumble across it.

In 2011, I trained at the famed MLS National Sales Center, accepting an offer to work for Chivas USA.

Major League Soccer National Sales Center

The NSC is a highly selective sales training program. It provides a one-of-kind learning environment and exposure to the fundamentals of MLS ticket sales. Trainees have the opportunity to apply what they are learning to the sales of season, group and mini plan ticket inventory for different MLS clubs during the program. In addition to the real-life sales experience selling for MLS clubs, trainees will benefit from instructional feedback from audio and video analysis as well as innovative coaching from local improvisational theatre instructors.  At the conclusion, those trainees who successfully complete designated performance criteria have the opportunity to interview for sales positions at MLS clubs. I highly recommend this opportunity to any young bucks out there eager to break into the soccer world. It was one of my favorite and most memorable experiences in life. I met phenomenal people, many of which I am still friends with this to this very day.
